Derry Township was established in 1729 within Lancaster County when Pennsylvania’s proprietors subdivided the land to facilitate tax collection. In 1785, a segment of Lancaster County, including Derry Township, was carved out to form Dauphin County. Today, Derry Township is classified as a Second-Class Township governed by a Board of Supervisors.
The day-to-day operations of the township are managed across six departments under the oversight of the Township Manager. These departments include Administration, Finance, Information Communications, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Police, and Library. The Township Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of these departments, ensuring that the policies and decisions of the Board of Supervisors are effectively implemented.
